Mission Statement
Full DocumentAccepting the premise that language and communication are at the heart of the human experience, the mission of the World Languages Department is to engage students in second language learning that fosters their competence (a) to communicate with other people in other cultures in a variety of settings, (b) to look beyond their customary borders, (c) to develop insight into their own language and culture, (d) to act with greater awareness of self, of other cultures, and their own relationship to those cultures, (e) to gain direct access to additional bodies of knowledge, and (f) to participate more fully in the global community and marketplace.
