Senior On-Campus Parking Information for Spring 2010

Criteria  |  Exclusions  |  Rules and Regulations

Senior parking procedures for Spring 2010 are as follows:

Parking spaces are limited at Centennial High School and there is no room for expansion. There are fewer spots this school year due to the construction of additional science classrooms. Seniors who are granted parking will be given a parking space on-campus, though not necessarily in the stadium/gym lot. Subsequently, the following procedures are designed to make parking for seniors as equitable as possible.

Criteria for Obtaining a Parking Permit

  1. Senior parking is a privilege and is based on tardies and discipline during the previous semester.
  2. Only students who possess a Class C or D driver’s license will be issued a permit.
  3. A calendar for the permit issuance process will be published each semester approximately two weeks prior to the start of the process.
  4. Only school resource officers or designated administrator will issue permits. Valid permits must be visibly displayed in the front windshield driver’s side of the vehicle. If a valid permit is not displayed, an automobile parked on campus will be towed at the owner’s expense. Students who change vehicles during the school semester need to contact Mrs. Littman in the Assistant Principals’ office immediately to obtain a temporary parking pass.
  5. Students who are notified that they qualify for a parking permit must present a valid driver’s license, tag receipt, and proof of insurance before they will be allowed to purchase a parking permit. The tag receipt and proof of insurance must have the same vehicle identification number.
  6. Vehicles improperly parked (not having proper on-campus decals, parked in restricted or reserved areas, or other unauthorized locations) are towed at the expense of the owner/operator of the vehicle. No warning will be given prior to the vehicle being towed.
  7. Parking permits will be issued using a system to rank seniors based on tardies and discipline. Parking will be offered to students on the list in consecutive order until no more spaces are available. Senior students must meet the following requirements in order to obtain a parking permit. Criteria evaluation will be based on student information relating to the semester previous to the semester for which a parking permit is applied (i.e., Fall 2009 parking eligibility will be based on Spring 2009 information.)
    1. Students applying for a parking pass must attend the Safe Driving Seminar on Tuesday, November 10 at 7:00 pm in the auditorium. Parents/guardians are encouraged to attend with their students.
    2. Parking permits will be issued using a lottery process.
      • Lottery 1 includes students who have had no assignments of in-school suspension (ISS), out-of-school suspension (OSS), no more than five (5) unexcused tardies to class and/or school during the previous semester, and no honor code violations.
      • Lottery 2 includes students who have had no assignments of in-school suspension (ISS), out-of-school suspension (OSS), no more than five (5) unexcused tardies to class and/or school, no more than one (1) day of Saturday Opportunity School during the previous semester, and no honor code violations.
    3. Any spaces still available after Lottery 2 will be available in Lottery 3 using the above criteria and no more than two (2) days of Saturday Opportunity School during the previous semester.
    4. Twenty parking spaces will be held for specialized programs (TAG internships, work-study, and off-campus joint enrollment) to facilitate access to these students because no system transportation is provided.
    5. Out-of-district and hardship cases do not qualify for parking unless the above criteria are met.
    6. Exceptions are not made for students who participate in before or after school activities.
    7. Students may not have any outstanding fines for books, media center, physical education locks, JROTC uniforms, athletic fines, or any other school fines at the time that parking applications are submitted.
    8. There will not be an appeals process since attendance has been removed as parking criteria.
  8. All parking passes are for one semester only. The cost per semester is $50 per parking permit.

Exclusions

The Centennial High School administration reserves the right to amend this policy at any time should available parking spaces become more limited.

Rules and Regulations

  1. In the event a student drives/purchases a new vehicle or switches vehicles, it shall be the student’s responsibility to notify Mrs. Littman in the Assistant Principal’s Office with the new tag number and tag receipt so that it can be properly recorded. Students who sell their vehicle must present their previous decal, even if torn, in order to be reissued another permit.
  2. Students found buying, selling, or exchanging permits with other students will have their parking privileges revoked and no parking fees will be refunded.
  3. Students with parking permits must park only in the designated student areas unless authorized by school personnel.
  4. Loitering or visitation in the parking lot during school hours is prohibited. The school is not responsible for any vehicle or its contents while parked on school property.
  5. The speed limit is 15mph on school grounds. Reckless driving on school grounds is prohibited. Students are expected to comply with all State of Georgia Traffic Rules and Road Safety Rules while on school property.
  6. The interiors of student vehicles may be inspected whenever a school authority has reasonable grounds or suspicion that illegal or unauthorized materials are contained inside. Such inspections may be conducted without notice, without student consent, and without a search warrant.
  7. Temporary permits for seniors and juniors will only be issued in emergencies by the Assistant Principal’s Office for $10.00 per day. No temporary permits will be issued to freshmen or sophomores. These permits should be purchased prior to attending any class (including zero period). Permits may be purchased three days at a time on a first come first serve basis. No students will be allowed to remain on campus after the daily limit of passes are sold.
  8. Students identified as driving recklessly or using excessive noise from stereos and/or speeding on campus may have their parking privileges revoked.
  9. Students are encouraged to use the bus service in case of inclement weather.
  10. Centennial High School and the Fulton County Board of Education will not be held responsible for damages to vehicles parking on school property. Centennial High School’s and Fulton County Board of Education’s insurance will not cover the damages sustained from acts of vandalism, careless usage, or acts of nature.
  11. Centennial High School reserves the right to cancel any student’s parking privilege. Parking privileges will be suspended for unexcused absences or excessive tardiness to school and/or to class, for leaving campus without permission during the school day in the vehicle, cutting classes, illegal parking or parking violations, and weapons and/or illegal substances, drugs, alcohol, and other related and/or illegal contraband found in the vehicle.
