Centennial Partners with AFI for Teen Safe Driving Initiative
This winter sports season, Centennial will participate in American Family Insturance's Teen Safe Driving Program. Come to the first regular season varsity home basketball games Tuesday, December 8 vs. Kell to learn more about the program and to receive a basketball game schedule magnet.

Pennies for Patients
Two health science interns, seniors Kacy Bennett and Mary-Alice McBurney, kicked off Centennial's first annual Pennies for Patients fundraiser to help raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Donations will be collected at the senior night football game on October 30 vs. Lassiter, in classrooms, and at various other events. Help Centennial raise $4,000 by the end of November.

Jazz Ensemble Hosts Italian Night
The Centennial Jazz Ensemble, along with the Holcomb Bridge Middle School and Haynes Bridge Middle School jazz bands, are hosting an Italian feast on Friday, November 20 at 7:00pm in the cafeteria. This is an all-you-can-eat feast for just $10 a person ($5 for children 8 and under.) Family packages of 4 are available for $35. Along with live jazz, there will also be games and raffles. Attention Sophomores and Juniors!
Practice makes perfect… The PRA exam will be offered on two early release days: November 18 and February 24. The PRA is a test created by The Princeton Review to expose students to both the SAT and ACT. It is a measurement tool that can help students determine if they would score higher on the SAT or ACT. The PRA has seven 25-minute sections and one 30-minute SAT essay section. Test takers will receive a comprehensive score report detailing students’ strengths and weaknesses on both the SAT and ACT. Support FBLA - Buy a Honey Baked Ham
FBLA is selling gift certificates for Honey Baked Hams to raise money for registration fees to conferences and state and national competitions. Certificates can be purchased in increments of $10, $25, $35, and $50. Certificates are easy to redeem, are valid at any HBH retail store, and do not have an expiration date. The certificates can be used for any HBH product including hams, turkeys, sandwiches, and sides. FBLA will receive 20% of the total sales. Orders will be taken through November 16. Fulton County Schools Announces its Future Focus Fair
Fulton County Schools will be holding its first Future Focus Fair on Saturday, November 14th, 2009. All FCSS parents of 7th-12th grade students are invited to come out and hear good advice on how to best prepare their children for a variety of post-secondary options. The event will take place at the Georgia Tech Student Center from 10am-12pm. The featured speaker will be Nancy McDuff, Associate Vice President for Admissions and Enrollment Management at the University of Georgia. Ms. McDuff will also be serving as the moderator for a panel of guest speakers representing the following higher education institutions: GA Tech, GA Perimeter College, Spelman College, SCAD, and Argosy University. The panel discussion will be followed by break-out sessions featuring: GA DOE (CTAE), College Board, Georgia College 411, GA Student Financial Commission (HOPE), KAPLAN, and the ROTC representatives confirmed. Football Advances to Post Season Play
The Knights will open the 2009 Georgia High School Association football playoffs on Friday, November 13 at North Gwinnett High School. The game begins at 7:30 pm and the Knights, seeded fourth in Class 5A, Region 6, face a 10-0 nationally–ranked Bulldogs team that won Region 7. Tickets for the game are $8 and will be sold during all lunches Tuesday-Friday. Senior Parking Info for Spring 2010
The senior parking criteria has changed for the spring semester. There are two major changes:
  • Attendance is no longer a criteria for parking.
  • Seniors wishing to apply for parking MUST attend a Drive Safe, Drive Smart seminar on Tuesday, November 10 at 7:00pm in the auditorium. Parents are also encouraged to attend.

Theater Department Presents Dracula
The award winning theater department will present Bram Stoker’s classic Dracula just in time for Halloween. Dracula, popularized by Frank Langella as the title character in both stage and movie versions, will be presented live in the auditorium October 28-31. Showtimes are as follows:
  • Wednesday, Oct 28: 7:00pm
  • Thursday, Oct 29: 7:00pm
  • Friday, Oct 28: 7:00pm
  • Saturday, Oct 29: 5:00pm
Advance tickets are available in the front office. Ticket prices are $8/adults and $5/students. Tickets will be available at the door for $10/adults and $8/students. For the Saturday performance, any person wearing a costume (no masks allowed) or bringing a canned good will get a discounted ticket.

Bleachers on Demand Cominig to Centennial vs. Kell
Comcast's reality show about high school football in Georgia, Bleachers on Demand, is coming to the Centennial vs. Kell varsity football game on Friday, October 9. The cameras will be in the stands to collect interviews & stories. They are looking for the best Knights fan and want to know why Centennial is the best team on the field. PTSA Special Needs Parent Meeting
On Thursday, October 8, a representative from Georgia Community Support and Solutions (GCSS), a non-profit agency headquartered in Atlanta created to provide community-based services and support to people with disabilities and their families, will be on hand to explain how GCSS can help our children. Currently, GCSS has over 300 employees who provide all levels of support in the community to people with a variety of needs including residential support, employment services, respite care, family support, in-home care, and day programs. These meetings are open to all parents (no matter where your child goes to school), teachers, and anyone else interested in helping special needs students. Achievement Matters!: First Social
All Achievement Matters! honor card holders are invited to the first social event of the year! The social will be held on Wednesday, October 7, from 7:45-8:30 am and 4:00-5:00 pm at Cafe Au Lait. Hang out, bring your honor card, and get discounts too!

Letter Jacket Ordering Information
On Wednesday, October 7th, NEFF will be in the gym lobby during lunch to take orders and measurments for letter jackets. Letter winners can download the order form here.

Junior and Senior Class Ring Orders
Balfour will take class ring orders on October 6 and 7 in the gym lobby. $60 deposits are required to place orders. Information packets are available in the main office.

Reflections Cultural Arts Program
The 2009-10 PTSA Reflections Cultural Arts program is underway. This year's theme is "Beauty is..." and entries can be submitted in one or more categories. If you are a writer, you can author a poem or short written work about what beauty is to you. Photographers can submit a picture (both black and white and color are acceptable) or a group of pictures about what beauty is. If you're a yet-to-be-discovered Stephen Spielberg, you can direct, screenwrite, or shoot your own film or video production about what beauty is. You can draw, paint, put together a collage, or design computer-generated artwork that shows your idea of what beauty is. Additional categories are musical composition and dance choreography. The deadline for submitting entries is October 5th for 9th and 10th grades, and October 6th for 11th and 12th grades. PTSA Hosting Flu Clinic
The National PTA and Flu Busters have joined together to fight the spread of influenza through a program designed to educate, motivate, and vaccinate - children, families, school staff, and other members of the community. The PTSA, along with the Holcomb Bridge Middle School PTA, will be hosting a flu clinic on Saturday, October 3, 2009 from 2-5pm in the cafeteria. The cost for the vaccine is $25 during pre-registration, $27 at the door, and $30 for nasal spray vaccine. Click here to pre-register. Mighty Marching Knights Yard Sale
The Mighty Marching Knights are hosting a yard sale on Saturday, October 3 from 10am-2pm in the front parking lot. The band is requesting donations of items for the sale with the proceeds to help fund the band's trip to Florida for the 2010 Gator Bowl and Universal Studios Macy's Parade. Rental of vendor booths to sell your own items (such as yard sale items, crafts, jewelry, etc.) is also planned. Donations may be dropped off at the school on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays until 6:00pm. Additional details are available on the band web site or contact Irita Mullen.

Seminar Registration for Session 2
The seminar website is open for registration for session two. Please make sure you have registered for a seminar by Friday, October 2. Use your school user name and password to access the seminar site.

Wrestling Informational Meeting
The wrestling team will have a brief organizational meeting on Tuesday, September 29th at 3:55 pm in room B-06. Anyone interested in training or wrestling this season needs to be present. If you can't attend, please see Coach St. James.

Juniors: The Writing Test is Coming!
The Georgia High School Writing Test will be held on Wednesday, September 30 for all 11th grade students as well as upperclassmen new to Centennial. Report to your advisement classroom at 8:40am for testing location information. Good luck on your persuasive essays!

Steps for Success Saturday
College is possible! La Universidad Es Posible! The Hispanic Scholarship Fund, in collaboration with the Fulton County School District, is hosting an event on Saturday, September 26 from 8:30am-1:00pm at Centennial to provide students and their families with information about the importance of a college education. Concurrent workshops will be given for 6-12th grade students and their parents on:
  • Preparing & Paying for College
  • Preparing for the SAT
  • University Profiles
  • Writing Personal Statements
  • Community College Transfer Plan

Affidavits of Residency Due Annually
Affidavits of residence forms are due on September 28. All students in ninth through eleventh grades must submit a form. Additionally, students new to Centennial, ninth graders, and students who have moved since the last time they submitted a form must also provide proof of residency. | Additional Information

Swim and Dive Informational Meeting
The informational meeting for the 2009-10 Swim & Dive team has been rescheduled to Tuesday, September 22 at 7:00pm in the media center. Everyone is welcome! Meet the new coaches, Andrew Morrison and Megan Robinson, and learn about team fees, dates, requirements, and lots more.

Open House/Curriculum Night
Open House/Curriculum Night will be held on Wednesday, September 16 beginning at 6pm. This is an evening when teachers introduce themselves and present the courses they teach and their curricula. Parents will learn more about course requirements, grading policies, long term assignments, best way to get in touch with each teacher, what the expectations are, and general guidelines to make the year a successful one. Free or Reduced Price Meal Benefits
To continue free or reduced price meal benefits for students, each household must complete a new application each year. Free and Reduced Meal Benefits will end on September 21, 2009, if the household has not reapplied for school year 2009-10. If there is an interruption in benefits or the household does not reapply, the household is responsible for payment of meals until the Free and Reduced Application is approved. To help assure continuation of benefits, the household must have a new application turned in to the school cafeteria manager before September 16, 2009. Be sure to list all the students in the household on the application. Keep in mind, the application may take up to 10-days to process. PTSA Offers Mock SAT
A mock SAT will be administered by Study Works in the cafeteria on Saturday, September 12. Check-in will begin at 8:00am, and the exam will begin at 8:30am. Cost per student is only $5 to be paid at check-in (cash or check payable to CHS PTSA). To register ahead of time, contact Study Works online or call 1.800.783.1728. Registration on the day of the test will also be accepted. Study Works will return the tests and discuss the results in a follow-up meeting scheduled for Tuesday, September 22 at 7pm in the auditorium. Environmental Club Needs Your Donations
The Environmental Club will be hosting a Croc Cares Recycling Event on September 11 and 23 at the home varsity football games. Please bring your old Crocs to donate to charity. Your crocs will be chopped, melted, and reformed into new Crocs which will be given to impoverished children around the world. Do you have a GO CART that you can donate to the Environmental Club? Visual Arts Fundraiser
Centennial will be offering family portraits with 100% of the proceeds being donated to support our Visual Arts Program. This is a wonderful opportunity to update your family photo album with a professional portrait at a very reasonable price. Receive an 11x14 portrait for only $20, regularly $65, from Tanner Photography. Portraits will be taken at their studio located at the intersection of North Point Parkway and Kimball Bridge, at 3000-B Royal Boulevard South in Alpharetta. International Students Parent Info Night
The ESOL Department is holding an information session for parents of international students on Wednesday, September 9 at 7pm in the auditorium. This Spanish/English session is designed to welcome and inform parents of international students on how to navigate the educational system. Parents will receive information about topics relevant to their child’s success in school and about upcoming events. They also will have an opportunity to meet other parents. Senior Parent Night
Information for parents will be presented at Senior Parent/Financial Aid Night on September 3 at 7pm in the auditorium. Hosted by the Counseling Office, the evening program will provide information seniors and their parents need to know about applications to colleges, sending out transcripts (and other information from Centennial), financial aid, college visitations, HOPE Scholarship, state education issues, and other information pertinent to seniors. Handouts will be provided. All parents of seniors are encouraged to attend.

Football Season Opener Webcast Live
Georgia Public Broadcasting and Score Atlanta will be at Friday night’s football opener against Northview and will webcast the game live at GPB.org. The event is sponsored by the US Army and is called Road to the Dome. It is one of 14 games this season that will be available live and On Demand at GPB.

Vote for Centennial Football to be on WSBTV
Should WSB-TV cover Centennial's home football opener vs. Northview? WSB-TV returns with high school football action Friday, Aug. 28. This year we will open up the polls and let you, the public, determine one game that we cover. Northview vs. Centennial is one of the feature games included in the poll for Week 1. We'll shoot video of the game to include on the high school football telecast on the 11 p.m. news. We'll shoot the cheerleaders, the band, and the fans and include them on TV too. Freshman Parent Night
The PTSA is hosting Freshman Parent Night on Tuesday, August 25 from 7-9pm. Freshman parents and parents of new students are encouraged to attend this informational meeting. Clinical psychologist Dr. Spence Gelernter will speak on the transition from middle school to high school. Principal John Bartley, Head Counselor Shellie Caplinger, and Resource Officer Ray Parker will also be addressing the audience.

Spend Friday Night at the Movies
The Executive Student Council is hosting the annual Flick in the Fortress on Friday, August 21. Come see Remember the Titans at 8:30pm in the Fortress. Admission is only $3. Are You Ready for Some Football?
The Knights will hold their preseason scrimmage game Thursday night, August 13, at the Fortress against neighborhood rival Chattahoochee. The game starts at 7:30pm, admission is $5, and concession stands will be open. The Junior Knights football teams will also participate and will scrimmage the Cougars at the following times: 6th grade @ 6pm, 7th grade at 6:25pm, and 8th grade at halftime of the varsity game. Achievement Matters!
Please welcome a new program to Centennial: Achievement Matters! This program rewards excellence at Centennial High School. Just as the Hope Scholarship is awarded to students who earn at least an 80 percent GPA, Achievement Matters! will honor students who earn an 80 percent or greater GPA. Honor Cards, which were a cornerstone of the former Renaissance Program, will be presented to students who earn the right to be in the Achievement Matters! program. Achievement Matters! honor cards will offer discounts to students as well as Centennial faculty and staff; these discounts are generously provided by area business partners. Other elements of this program will be unveiled throughout the school year - stay tuned!

Enrollments are on a walk-in basis and will take place in the Centennial Media Center. To ensure that your registration goes smoothly, it is critical that you provide all of the required documents at the time of enrollment. Please refer to the registration flyer (English | Spanish) for a complete list of required documents. After August 13th, enrollments will require an appointment, which should be scheduled with Centennial’s counseling office.
