Mission Statement
Full DocumentAccepting general principles from current research and theory about the nature of language, language learning, human development, and pedagogy, the mission of the Centennial High School ESOL Department is to ensure that students understand that (a) language is functional, (b) language varies, (c) language learning is cultural learning, (d) language acquisition is a long-term process, (e) language acquisition occurs through meaningful use and interaction, (f) language processes develop interdependently, (g) native language proficiency contributes to second language acquisition, and (h) bilingualism is an individual and social asset.
